10 Makeup Mistakes That Make You Look Older
You don't necessarily need make-up to look beautiful, because you are gorgeous just the way you are. However, if you choose to wear some, avoid making these common mistakes.
1. Too much concealer.
In order to get the perfect matte effect, many women apply too much concealer. A thick layer, especially if it's not the right color, can end up highlighting your wrinkles. This is why makeup artists recommend avoiding thick foundations and choosing fluid ones with luminous particles, that make your skin look natural and healthy without overloading it.
2. Too much mascara on the lower lashes.
You should use mascara on the lower lashes to accentuate the edges of your eyes and gain extra expressiveness. However, too much of it will draw attention to the wrinkles around your eyes.
3. The wrong lipstick tone.
Lipstick adds a great effect to your overall look, but you should be careful when choosing the color. If your lips are narrow, avoid using a dark-toned lipstick, because it will make them seem even thinner.
4. Using dark eyeshadows the wrong way.
Avoid applying dark shadows over the whole lid area, because it will make you look older. The right way is to only dab the outer corners of your eyes.
5. Overusing lower lid eyeliner.
Dark eyeliner on your lower lid will make your eyes look smaller. Instead of choosing a black pencil, go for a light color instead, because it will add openness to your look.
6. Rouge on the apples of your cheeks.
Instead of choosing intense colors, pick lighter tones, like pale pink or pinch. Apply the blush on the upper part of your cheek, not the center and not too close to the nose.
7. Highlighting the eyebrows too much.
Pay a very special attention to your eyebrows, because they can change your whole aspect. Don't use colors that are too intense and don't enlarge them more than necessary. Choose a tone that is very close to your natural eyebrow color.
8. Not using corrector.
Dark circles under the eyes is a common problem and as we age, they become more and more pronounced. Covering them with concealer usually makes thing worse, but a bit of corrector will work miracles. Make sure you apply it only on the dark areas and spread it as thinly as possible.
9. Using the lip liner pencil wrong.
The lip liner is essential for a great makeup because it allows you to define the outline of your lips. However, you must be very careful not to overdraw the natural borders. Also, make sure you shade the lining toward the center of the lips, so you don't end up with a visible "mustache".
10. Too much powder.
Skin defects can be easily covered with powder, but only if you apply it in small quantities. Apply light mineral or rice powder on the T-zone and avoid it around the eyes, because you'll end up highlighting your wrinkles.
