Before she became worldwide famous, Angelina Jolie battled anorexia, depression and drug addiction. She put her life together and by the time she got the lead role in the Lara Croft movie she was clean.
2. Robert Downey Jr.
Ever since he was a teenager, Robert Downey Jr had problems with substance abuse which eventually led to jail time, many months spent in rehab and cost him two marriages and some important contracts. Thankfully, with the help of friends and family, he managed to overcome these dark times and become the great man he is today.
At the beginning of her career, Adele was not comfortable with the way she looked on stage and in order to gain courage, she started drinking alcohol. This quickly escalated and turned into a serious problem.
"Once I got so drunk that, when I had to go onstage, I forgot the words to my own songs. It was the worst night of my life", she recalls.
