People Have Been Downloading Their Facebook Data And This Is What They Found
After the Cambridge Analytica scandal broke out, people have started to download their Facebook data, to see how much the tech giant has on them.
And it's big. Facebook has been storing EVERYTHING. All your photos, video, messages, contacts, location data and even texts you've sent using a different app.
You've changed your phone and lost your contacts? Facebook has them. Can't find an email address? No worries. It's there. Here's what others have discovered.
I downloaded my data from Facebook to see what's in there. In addition to the expected stuff (every photo/video I've uploaded is present) there were a few unexpected surprises. All contact information from my phone was there; I have never knowingly given permission for this...— Andrew Coleman Francis (@AndrewCFrancis) March 27, 2018

155 advertisers have my contact information
Of those 155, I've only done business with 10.
Of those 10, I only have actual accounts with 7.
Who are these other 148 businesses?
Just downloaded my own Facebook data and hoo boy letâs just say hats off to Mark Zuckerberg for putting together a truly impressive intelligence collection platform.— ٠ارک Marc Johnson (@BlogGuero) March 24, 2018
And I *barely use* the app and even DELETED IT FROM MY PHONE in 2014.
The most interesting thing I found when I downloaded my facebook data was that one of my targeted ad words is âbuttocksâ— Mabel Gueule (@mabellegueule) March 27, 2018

Just downloaded a copy of my Facebook data and I am honestly contemplating deactivating soon. The have every single message I have ever sent, details of my contacts, and a call log of every single call I've made on my phone.... (not even on the messenger app!)— Haleema Khan (@haleemak_) March 26, 2018
So, I downloaded my facebook data out of curiosity, can confirm it has all my contacts, seems to be from the time when I was using Android. Also it had this, advertisers to whom facebook sold my data. pic.twitter.com/tRv7yTgu4E— Sai Krishna Teja (@the_dataguy) March 25, 2018

I just downloaded my data from Facebook to check how much they have on me. Scary shit. Cellphone photos from 2006 that I never uploaded and audio recordings from my iPhone.— J.F. Musial (@jfmusial) March 25, 2018
Bizarre side effect of Facebook stuff...just downloaded my Facebook data, re-read every message from a friend who died a few yrs back. It brought him back in such vivid detail. Still creepy that they have all that info, but also how odd that something so transient is preserved.— Jess Brammar (@jessbrammar) March 26, 2018
I downloaded all of my Facebook data and found a whole bunch of phone numbers that I thought I lost forever.— ï½ ï½ï½ï½ï½ï½ï½ "ï½ï½ ï½ ï½ï½ï½ ï½ï½ ï½ï½ï½ ï½ï½ï½ï½ï½ï½ï½ ï½ï½ï½ï½ï½" ï½ï½ï½ï½ï½ï½ (@blueminder) March 26, 2018
I also finally learned why Facebook keeps telling me to âLikeâ my former therapistâs page. So thatâs cool.
