The painted houses in Zalipie

This is Zalipie, a small village in Poland, where everything is covered in flowers. Apparently, the tradition started years ago when someone painted a flower on the ceiling to cover up a soot mark. They were pretty common back then, so others started covering their soot marks with flowers, as well. In 1948 they even started an annual Painted Cottage Competition that has been held ever since.
