This Park Ranger Comforts A Sad Gorilla That Just Lost Its Mother
The heartbreaking photo pictures an orphaned gorilla being comforted by a park ranger.
This heartbreaking photo shows a park ranger who is comforting a gorilla that lost its mother to poachers. Patrick Karabaranga is a ranger at the Virunga National Park in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The man comforts an orphaned gorilla in the park's gorilla sanctuary after the animal lost its mother.
The bond they share is very heartwarming, and it's touching to see how the gorilla shows its appreciation, by placing its hand on the ranger's leg.
The sad gorilla isn't the only orphan in the sanctuary, as many have lost their mothers due to poachers, or as a result of illegal attempts by traffickers to smuggle them out of the park.
Virunga National Park hosts more than 200 mountain gorillas, accounting for about a quarter of the world's mountain gorilla population.
